INCHES WIDE! Croatia have to concede their fate now! It just isn't meant to be for them! A scramble in the area is pounced upon by Vida who places a volley agonisingly wide of the top corner! They can't buy a goal!
120' +1
A. Kramarić enters the game and replaces V. Ćorluka.
Substitution Vedran Ćorluka Andrej Kramarić
120'
There will be two minutes added on at the end of this match. Is there to be a sting in the tale?
119'
IT'S ALL COMING TO LIFE NOW! Pjaca makes a delightful run towards the byline, riding out a challenge inside the area before Fonte bundles his cross behind for a corner. It's now or never for Croatia!
117'
Ricardo Quaresma has scored a goal for Portugal!
PORTUGAL SURELY WIN IT NOW! Oh how harsh it is on Croatia! Following Perisic's close-call, Portugal break the other way in numbers. Renato sprays out wide for Nani, who picks out Ronaldo with a teasing delivery. The forward's shot is stopped, but Quaresma is on hand to knock the rebound into the empty net!
116'
OFF THE POST! Croatia have completely taken charge, just as it looked like penalties were unavoidable! Perisic lashes a ball across the six-yard box, but Kalinic can't meet it in the centre! Pressure stays on and Perisic gets on the end of a cross, but his acrobatic effort smacks off the base of the post!
114'
WAS THAT THE CHANCE?! Vida rises at the far post to get on the end of a corner, but he lifts a header over the bar! He knows what an opportunity that was to send his side through to the last-eight!
112'
Fortune favours the bold, but there's been precious little bravery on display tonight. Neither team wants to spoil what, in theory, is one of the easier routes to the semi-final by making a careless error out on the pitch - and that's led to a dreadful excuse for a football match, to be blunt. But they won't care how pretty it is, the result is all that matters.
110'
M. Pjaca enters the game and replaces I. Rakitić.
A second change for Croatia, who replace Rakitic with Marko Pjaca, who packed quite an attacking punch against Spain.
Minute
Description
108'
Danilo Pereira enters the game and replaces Adrien Silva.
Fernando Santos makes his final change as Porto midfielder Danilo replaces Adrien Silva.
106'
Here we go with the final 15 minutes!
105' +1
We've reached half-time in extra-time!
105'
There will be a minute added on here following Corluka's injury. The centre-half is back on the pitch, however, which is welcome news for Croatia.
103'
Play mercifully comes to a halt as Corluka goes to ground in clear discomfort. It's his right leg that the training staff are working on, so it's very possibly just a cramp for the centre-half - though Croatia still have two changes left if they feel so compelled.
101'
Brozovic tries his luck from a long way out, and why not? He misses the target by five yards at least, but it's at least a hint of someone wanting to provide the breakthrough, because it hasn't otherwise looked like either side is particularly eager.
99'
Who knows what's stopping these two teams from getting going, but they've failed to meet the rather high expectations the football world had for this round-of-16 encounter. It's been very pedestrian as we STILL await the first shot on target heading into the 100th minute.
97'
STAT: Croatia have only failed to score once in their last 12 games at the European Championships, it was against Spain in 2012.
95'
Clever bit of invention! It would have required a spectacular effort for Perisic to score from there, but it's not the worst idea in the world from the winger who tries to catch Patricio off his line, flicking a header at goal from atop the area. The keeper is able to react easily, however, as he gets back only to watch the effort crash onto the roof of the net.
93'
Renato is penalised for a foul on Modric from 30 yards out, but Croatia squander the chance as Srna's free-kick deflects out of harm's way. Perisic sprints to keep it alive, which he does admirably, but overhits a cross as it all proves to be for nothing in the end.
91'
Underway in extra-time! Who will be the hero tonight?
90' +2
Perisic and Srna make waves down the right as Croatia show signs of life in attack, but a pair of important defensive interventions from Pepe and Fonte see aside the danger. Surely we're headed for another 30 minutes now, and possibly penalties!
90'
There will be three minutes added on at the end of this match, as extra-time beckons.
88'
N. Kalinić enters the game and replaces M. Mandžukić.
Mandzukic departs after a frustrating night, replaced by Nikola Kalinic in Croatia's first change of the match.
87'
Ricardo Quaresma enters the game and replaces João Mário.
Portugal make their second change as Joao Mario is replaced by Ricardo Quaresma. A positive change from Fernando Santos.
86'
If the opening 85 minutes are anything to go by, it's incredibly unlikely that either side will, at this stage, send bodies forward in search of a dramatic winner at the risk of leaving themselves exposed at the back. Mario makes a strong run off the ball on the left, into a good pocket of space, but Renato is unable to pick him out.
84'
Mandzukic was nursing a knock in the week leading up to this match and he's down now in need of attention from the training staff as he clutches his lower back. He's had a difficult ask tonight with service sorely lacking, but he's another player with the sort of quality needed to turn the game on its head in the blink of an eye.
82'
Late goals have been a major storyline in this tournament - is there another one to come tonight? Surely it's next goal wins now. This game has been crying out for one for some time now, which would have really helped open things up, but this late in the game it won't have the same effect.
80'
This is the type of game where you would expect a Ronaldo or Modric to take control and leave their mark, with the initiative very much there for the taking - but it simply hasn't been the case. Rakitic sums up the match's attacking quality as his latest delivery from a free-kick is sent miles over everyone's head and behind for a goal-kick.
78'
William Carvalho gets yellow.
William commits a cynical foul on the flank to halt a break, and that will see him pick up the first yellow card of the match.
76'
STAT: Portugal have reached the knockout stage at a sixth successive European Championship. They have reached the semi-finals in three of the last four editions, more than any other team during that time.
74'
Srna runs out of room on the touchline, but he's bailed out by the naivety of Renato Sanches who shoves him to ground on the very edge of the area. It's right on the touchline, which presents a bit of an awkward angle for Rakitic to try and whip in a ball, and he's not up to the task as his delivery is cleared soundly.
72'
Into the final 20 minutes as the tempo continues to be plagued by a lack of consistency. Neither side has shown a desire to take charge after a positive spell in attack, too willing to drop deeper in possession and patiently build through midfield - though there's hardly been much constructed.
70'
The arrival of Renato Sanches has done wonders for Portugal, who are looking the brighter of the two teams for the first time tonight. Cacic will be looking on and surely pondering a switch of his own. He's not lacking in creative outlets off the bench, with Marko Pjaca, Nikola Kalinic and Mateo Kovacic all certainly capable, among others.
68'
It's just starting to pick up a bit now! Portugal showing some urgency as they search for the breakthrough. A clever ball over the top finds Ronaldo, who does well to halt his run and keep it alive with his first touch, but Vida is wise to it, intervening to knock it into the corner. Cedric arrives, but he terribly overhits his cross as the pressure is relieved.
66'
STAT: Portugal have reached the knockout stage at a sixth successive European Championship. They have reached the semi-finals in three of the last four editions, more than any other team during that time.
64'
PORTUGAL APPEAL FOR A PENALTY! Nani chases down a ball over the top and uses his shoulder to knock it forward, before going to ground under contact from Strinic! It was all very innocent from the full-back, however, who didn't do enough to warrant conceding a spot-kick, and the referee saw it the same way.
62'
WHAT A CHANCE! Rakitic provides a terrific delivery in from a free-kick, which Vida runs to meet in the centre, but he sends a glancing header wide of the far post! He has to be doing better there to hit the target, and you have to wonder if Croatia would be in front had he left that for Mandzukic!
60'
Into the final half-hour in Lens and we still await our first shot on target. Croatia are back on the front foot in control of possession, but still can't seem to find the required quality in the final third as another delivery into the area from Strinic goes begging.
58'
DREADFUL... but encouraging! Renato Sanches provides the spark Portugal have been so desperately craving! He bursts forward on a searching run, before working a tidy one-two with Mario that presents him with a shooting chance atop the area, but he scuffs an effort miles wide of the near post as he gets the contact all wrong!
56'
Croatia have taken the initiative it would seem. The match was there for the taking, and they're the ones who have pushed the tempo since the restart, starting to ask one or two questions of the Portugal back-line. The Seleccao need to do a better job of keeping possession when they win it back.
54'
STAT: World Cup 1998 is the only time Croatia have actually won a game in the knockout stages of a major tournament – they won three games to finish 3rd.
52'
CLOSER! Strinic and Mandzukic combine for a terrific one-two before the full-back sends a glancing ball across the face of goal. Brozovic busts a gut to get on the end of it, but fails to make contact with the header by a whisker before it's knocked behind for a corner!
50'
Renato Sanches enters the game and replaces André Gomes.
Renato Sanches comes on just five minutes into the second half. It's curious timing to say the least, but a necessary swap as Portugal look to find a bit of a spark. Andre Gomes gives way.
48'
No changes from either side at the break, but as Croatia start on the front foot, Fernando Santos quickly calls over to his bench and looks set to make a switch. Renato Sanches is up talking to his coach as he strips off his tracksuit - the Bayern teenager may be entering the fray shortly.
46'
Here we go again!
45' +1
HALF-TIME: CROATIA 0-0 PORTUGAL.
45'
There will be just one minute added on at the end of this first half.
43'
It's looking increasingly as though we'll be heading into the interval scoreless in Lens. Neither side has shown enough to make them deserving of a lead at the break, as the managers have their work cut out for them at half-time. Both teams are in need of adjustments with this game very much there for the taking.
41'
Crying out for a better ball! Croatia find themselves in acres of space on the break after a clever one-two in the centre, with Perisic spraying an excellent ball out wide fro Strinic. The full-back has all the time in the world to pick out a cross for Mandzukic or Brozovic, but he sends it straight at Fonte who manages to clear!
39'
STAT: Their only previous encounter between these two sides in a major tournament ended in a 3-0 win for Portugal in the group stages at EURO 1996. Luis Figo, Joao Pinto and Domingos De Oliveira scored for the Seleccao.
37'
Too many passes aren't reaching their intended target. It's all been too static in possession from these two sides, usually known for their quality in the middle of the pitch, but it's been anything but the case today. Neither side wants to take a risk, with little initiative been shown - it's as if we're playing for penalties already.
35'
William puts in a strong challenge to win his side the ball back in midfield, and they quickly break forward in numbers. There's a hint of excitement behind the move as Portugal work it into the final third quickly, but it all fizzles out as two sideways passes take the sting out of the counter and allow Croatia to get bodies back. It simply has to be better.
33'
Possession is remaining largely with Croatia again, as Portugal revert into their shell, but the patient approach being adopted by Cacic's side has led to precious little being created. Portugal have two new faces in their back-line today, yet they haven't been tested in this first half. Where's the urgency?
31'
THAT'S BETTER! Perisic shows good initiative as he chases down a ball over the top and drives into the penalty area. He cuts onto his left, desperate to make something happen, but scuffs a shot tamely into the side netting. The build-up was better there but the end product is still lacking.
29'
STAT: Croatia are unbeaten in their last 10 internationals (W8, D2), the longest current run among all teams involved at EURO 2016.
27'
Adrien Silva is down following a collision with Modric, as play again comes to a halt. Any hint of the tempo picking up is thwarted again as the training staff comes out to attend to the midfielder, whose participation in the remainder of the match doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy whatsoever.
25'
LIFTED OVER! Well it's the first opportunity of the night for either side! Portugal win a free-kick on the left through Ronaldo, and the subsequent delivery from Guerreiro is superb, but Pepe can't keep his header down from six-yards out!
23'
Creativity and ingenuity have been sorely lacking in this first half, but the good news is there's plenty of players on both teams who are more than capable of providing a touch of quality out of nothing. The likes of Ronaldo and Modric have yet to really get involved, but you can't keep them out forever.
21'
There's not a whole lot happening out on the pitch, as the crowd gets louder than they have since the start following a foul by Ronaldo on Srna - the two skippers coming together. The forward is quick to apologise and make amends with the full-back, which likely spared him a booking.
19'
This match is crying out for someone to take charge and provide a bit of inspiration, with quality sorely lacking thus far in the final thirds. Portugal are slowly growing in stature, and another clever move sees Guerreiro sent into space down the left, but the full-back is unable to produce the desired quality with his final ball.
17'
STAT: Portugal have won all three of their previous encounters with Croatia, scoring six goals and conceding none.
15'
Well it's Portugal who end up winning the game's first corner following an inquisitive move down the left which forces Badelj to put the ball behind. Mario's delivery is inviting, but Croatia clear the threat as Vida is first to it at the far post.
13'
Play only just resumes follow a bit of treatment required by Nani, who is all healed up and ready to rejoin the match. The tempo has struggled to find its legs thus far and the rather lengthy injury stoppage will do little to help its cause.
11'
The Vatreni appear to win the first corner of the match on the back of a long-throw from Strinic, but the left-back was too far out onto the pitch when taking the throw, as they concede possession cheaply. Meanwhile, a coming together between Perisic and Nani inside the area has left the Portuguese forward worse for wear.
9'
Ronaldo manages his first meaningful touch of the ball, coming on the fringes of the final third, but he's unable to create anything with it. Croatia are very much on top at the moment, but they have precious little to show for it as neither keeper has been put to work inside these first 10 minutes.
7'
STAT: In the third round of group matches, Croatia were responsible for ending Spain’s record EURO run of 14 games without a defeat, while ending La Furia Roja’s run without conceding at the tournament at 735 minutes.
5'
Portugal look rather assured at the back in dealing with the early pressure, but Croatia certainly aren't lacking in confidence as they continue to assert themselves in the final third. Brozovic and Rakitic link-up on a tidy move forward, but an important touch from Andre Gomes sends the ball safely back to Patricio.
3'
It's been a very encouraging start from Croatia, picking up where they left off at the end of the group stage. Cacic's men enjoy the bulk of early possession, and are working it around cleverly in the attacking half as Portugal struggle to get a touch on the ball.
1'
AND WE'RE OFF! Croatia in their checkered red and white tops get us underway, attacking left to right, with Portugal in their light-green strip.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage from the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens as Croatia and Portugal are set to battle it out for the right to take on Poland in the quarter-finals!
To say Portugal is a harsh reward for Croatia finishing first in their group is an understatement. When Ivan Perisic stepped up and helped Croatia defeat Spain to claim top spot in Group D, it looked as though Ante Cacic’s side were going to have one of the easier roads to the semi-finals… but then Arnor Traustason’s 94th minute winner for Iceland against Austria forced Portugal to settle for third in Group F, setting up this mouth-watering clash in northern France.
The Vatreni impressed in the group stage, showing both class and depth as they went unbeaten through their three matches, denied maximum points only by a late collapse against the Czech Republic. Croatia’s reputation as legitimate title contenders became clear in their beating of Spain on Tuesday, despite Cacic being without more than a few key members of his first-choice XI.
Portugal are into the last-16 despite not winning a match in the group stage – the only team to achieve this uninspiring feat. That being said, the Seleccao didn’t lose a game either and they finally got their attack going in the last match against Hungary, with their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo netting a brace. If the Real Madrid forward has indeed found his scoring touch in France, then Fernando Santos’ side are a team to fear in these knockout stages.
Ante Cacic makes five changes to the side which defeated Spain in their last time out, which includes the return of Luka Modric from a groin injury, forcing Marko Rog to the bench. Tin Jedvaj, Sime Vrsaljko, Marko Pjaca and Nikola Kalinic are also dropped from the XI, despite impressing a great deal against the defending champions, as Domagoj Vida, Ivan Strinic, Marcelo Brozovic and Mario Mandzukic reclaim their place in the starting line-up.
Fernando Santos has tinkered with his team in advance of the match, as the Seleccao search for their first win of the tournament. Raphael Guerreiro returns from injury at the expense of Eliseu, one of four changes made by the coach. Southampton duo Cedric Soares and Jose Fonte are brought into the back-line, making their first appearance of the competition at the expense of Vieirinha and Ricardo Carvalho. Another tournament debutant enters the fray in midfield, in the shape of Sporting Lisbon’s Adrien Silva, who replaces Joao Moutinho after a string of uninspiring performances.
There's no shortage of anticipation at this venue, the last Lens play host to at this tournament - and it should be a thriller! A teary eyed Dario Srna, following the passing of his father, meets Cristiano Ronaldo at the halfway line following the anthems as we get set for kick-off.
A lackluster opening 45 minutes has these sides heading into the break the same way they started. Neither keeper has had a save to make of yet. Pepe came closest for Portugal, and Perisic for Croatia, but both chances resulted in shots missing the target by at least a few feet. It's been a match bereft of quality in Lens, crying out for a moment of quality to kick it into high gear.
EXTRA-TIME IT IS! Well, there's not much of a summary to provide after 90 minutes. We haven't had as much as a shot on target as it remains scoreless in Lens.
Still nothing to separate these sides as the increasing likelihood of penalties looms.
FULL-TIME: CROATIA 0-0 PORTUGAL (0-1 AET). Ricardo Quaresma's winner deep into extra-time sends the Seleccao through to face Poland in the quarter-finals, as Croatia's tournament draws to a cruel conclusion. It was a game shockingly lacking in quality, as the first shot on target didn't come until the 117th minute through Cristiano Ronaldo, with his rebound being bundled in by Quaresma to break the deadlock.
Heartbreaking scenes following the final whistle as Dario Srna collapses to the ground in tears. He's had quite the emotional last two weeks and it's a shame to see his international career likely end this way.
That's all for our live coverage from Lens, thanks for following along. Goodbye!
