We're off! Hertha get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Bundesliga game between Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund head into their first home league game of the season searching for a second consecutive victory. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves in last weekend’s opener against Wolfsburg, with the Black and Yellow comfortably seeing off their struggle hosts thanks to goals from Christian Pulisic, Marc Bartra and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Hertha also managed to start the new Bundesliga campaign with a well-earned win, as they fought hard against newly promoted Stuttgart to leave with a 2-0 victory. Mathew Leckie, recently signed from Ingolstadt, scored both of his side’s goals, and he’ll be hoping to continue his excellent start to life in Berlin with another positive performance here today.
Both sides were fighting hard at the top of the table throughout the entirety of the last campaign, and games between them have been exciting affairs in recent years. Hertha managed to come away with a well-earned 1-1 draw in last season’s corresponding fixture, and they then went on to win 2-1 at the Olympiastadion towards the end of what was an excellent campaign for Die Alte Dame.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up today…
Hertha Berlin substitutes: Kraft, Pekarik, Esswein, Stocker, Haraguchi, Torunarigha, Lustenberger.
Peter Bosz has decided to name an unchanged Dortmund side to the one that started last weekend’s victory against Wolfsburg, with Lukasz Piszczek set to start his 250th Bundesliga game, a new record for a Polish player.
Hertha Berlin XI (4-5-1): Jarstein; Weiser, Langkamp, Rekik, Plattenhardt; Skjelbred, Stark, Leckie, Darida, Kalou; Ibisevic.
Meanwhile, Hertha boss Pal Dardai has made just one alteration to the team that featured at home to Stuttgart, with Niklas Stark coming into the starting line-up to replace Alexander Esswein.
All of the talk during the build-up to this evening’s game has been concerned with Ousmane Dembele, whose move to Barcelona was finally confirmed yesterday. The youngster may have only been at Dortmund for little over a year but he had become one of their standout performers, and the club are set to start a new chapter as they go into battle without the services of the talented 20-year-old.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1-0 HERTHA BERLIN
So far, so good for Dortmund, who have dominated the game and head down the tunnel with a well-deserved one-goal lead. Hertha were on the back foot for most of the first half and struggled to find a way forward, something that will surely concern Pal Dardai. However, they're only marginally behind at the moment, and as long as that continues to be the case, there remains a way back into the game for them if they're able to hit their opponents on a quick counter-attack.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2-0 HERTHA BERLIN
In the end, it was a relatively easy win for Dortmund, who was always on the front foot and never looked like losing once they'd gone 1-0 up. Sahin put the game to bed with an excellent strike 12 minutes into the second half and from then onwards it was just a case of game management from the hosts, who were thoroughly impressive throughout.
