THAT'S IT!!! Mannone holds onto Traore's drilled effort and the referee blows the final whistle. What a huge win for Sunderland!
90' +5
J. Terry gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
TERRY SENT OFF!!! Chelsea are down to 10 men in the dying seconds as he receives a second yellow card after recklessly charging into Khazri. It was very irresponsible from the captain in all fairness.
90' +4
Less than 60 seconds to go and the noise ringing around the Stadium of Light is unbelievable.
90' +3
In all fairness, Chelsea don't really look like finding an equaliser. They are not showing anywhere near enough creativity in the danger areas.
90' +1
FIVE MINUTES! That is how long Sunderland have to hold on for a huge victory. Can they do it?
90'
INTO THE WALL!... The Sunderland defence stands firm to prevent Fabregas' effort, before eventually clearing the danger.
89'
Chelsea have a free-kick right on the edge of the area! Costa is brought down and this is a great chance for the visitors to find an equaliser...
88'
S. Larsson gets yellow.
Larsson takes one for the team as he prevents Chelsea from hitting Sunderland on the counter.
87'
Y. Kaboul gets yellow.
J. Terry gets yellow.
Terry is booked and Sunderland have a free-kick 30 yards from goal.
Kaboul is booked for dissent.
85'
We are into the final five minutes at the Stadium of Light and Sunderland are closing in on a potentially huge victory here. As things stand, they could relegate rivals Newcastle with a win over Everton on Wednesday.
Minute
Description
83'
B. Traoré enters the game and replaces M. Obi.
The final throw of the dice from Hiddink sees Bertrand Traore replace Mikel.
80'
Oscar enters the game and replaces Willian.
Hiddink looks to Oscar for inspiration as he sends on one Brazilian for another, with Willian making way.
78'
As things stand, Sunderland will move out of the relegation zone. Three points would lift them to 17th replacing Newcastle, who are currently being held to a goalless draw by already relegated Aston Villa.
76'
It is set to be an anxious final 14 minutes for Sunderland here. This would be a magnificent three points for them if they can hang on...
74'
GOOD SAVE! Willian whips a dangerous delivery towards the far corner, but Mannone positions himself well to parry it over the bar.
73'
Chelsea are awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area after Costa is brought down and this is a dangerous situation for Sunderland...
71'
S. Larsson enters the game and replaces L. Cattermole.
Sunderland's final change sees Cattermole replaced by Sebastian Larsson.
70'
J. Defoe has scored a goal for Sunderland!
J. Defoe gets yellow.
Yellow card Jermain Defoe
UNBELIEVABLE - SUNDERLAND LEAD!!! And it's Defoe once again! Yedlin's cross takes a deflection that sees the ball fall kindly into the path of Defoe, who instinctively fires past Courtois and sends the home fans into ecstasy. How crucial could that goal be in Sunderland's quest for survival?...
68'
A. Baba enters the game and replaces B. Ivanović.
Ivanović was down for Chelsea during the build-up to that goal and is replaced by Rahman Baba.
67'
F. Borini has scored a goal for Sunderland! Assist by P. van Aanholt.
Van Aanholt showed great awareness to pick out Borini.
BORINI EQUALISES!!! The former Chelsea man does it again! He receives the ball on the edge of the box from fellow ex-Blue Van Aanholt, before smashing it past Courtois into the far corner. The Stadium of Light erupts.
66'
Watmore is making his 16th apperance from the bench for the Black Cats this season. He has scored four goals as a substitute, but can he do it again for his hometown club?
64'
D. Watmore enters the game and replaces J. Kirchhoff.
Sunderland make their second change, as Kirchhoff is replaced by Duncan Watmore.
62'
GOOD SAVE! Chelsea carve Sunderland open far too easily and Costa is unmarked to receive the ball from Fabregas. However, he takes too long and Mannone is quickly out to block him.
61'
Borini has scored two goals in his last three appearances for Sunderland against Chelsea, but the Italian needs to offer a lot more if he is continue that record this afternoon.
59'
A sigh of frustration echoes around the Stadium of Light as Borini just overhits his return pass looking for Khazri. Despite being awarded a corner, Sunderland are unable to trouble Chelsea from the subsequent set-piece.
57'
O'Shea has won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, but he now finds himself at the opposite end of the spectrum as he aims to help guide Sunderland to safety.
55'
J. O'Shea enters the game and replaces L. Koné.
Sunderland make their first change as Koné goes off to be replaced by John O'Shea.
54'
Sunderland are never short of yellow cards. Prior to today, only Watford, Tottenham and Aston Villa have received more in this season's Premier League.
52'
L. Cattermole gets yellow.
Cattermole is shown a yellow card after a rash challenge on Hazard. It looked a really painful one for the Belgian, who was caught right on top of his ankle.
51'
How important could that save prove to be from Mannone? Chelsea could well have been out of sight at 3-1 but, as it says, Sunderland are still very much in this game.
49'
GOOD SAVE! At the other end, Costa gets in behind the Sunderland defence. However, Mannone is quickly out of goal to make a very important stop.
48'
Yedlin delivers a dangerous ball towards the far post where Defoe is whiskers away from connecting, but it just runs past him and behind for a goal-kick.
46'
KICK-OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Sunderland get the ball rolling once more.
45' +4
That was the last action as the referee blows for half-time.
45' +3
N. Matić has scored a goal for Chelsea! Assist by César Azpilicueta.
CHELSEA BACK IN FRONT!!! Terrible defending from Sunderland allows the visitors to hit them on the counter attack. Azpilicueta is the furthest forward and heads the ball on for the advancing Matic, who slips it through the legs of Mannone to regain his side's lead.
Azpilicueta showed great levels of fitness to surge forward and cushion the ball into the path of Matic.
45' +1
We will have three minutes of stoppage time at the end of this first half. Sunderland are very much on top at the moment, but can they take a lead into the break?
45'
Cahill needs to be careful here. He fouls Cattermole on the near touchline and, while a second yellow card would have been harsh on that occasion, the England defender is treading very carefully.
43'
That was magnificent from Khazri. He has undoubtedly been one Sunderland's better signings this season and that has been justified in the best possible way.
41'
W. Khazri has scored a goal for Sunderland!
WHAT A GOAL!!! Khazri equalises in emphatic fashion! The ball is pumped into the area and only cleared by Cahill as far as Khazri, who unleashes an unstoppable 25-yard volley that flashes beyond the dive of Courtois.
40'
The Stadium of Light is pumped at the moment. They are urging their side forward in search of an equaliser.
38'
Statistically, Chelsea are at their most vulnerable in the second third of the matches this season. In fact, 54% of the goals they have conceded have come during this period.
36'
Both players appear to be alright to continue after receiving treatment and, following a fairly lengthy stoppage, play is back underway.
34'
There is a slight break in play here as Borini and Terry go down following an aerial collision. They are both receiving attention from the medical teams.
32'
The Black Cats do possess a very dangerous outlet in Defoe this afternoon. He looks to breach the Chelsea back line again as he latches onto Cattermole's through ball, but the offside flag denies him once more.
30'
STAT ATTACK! The last time Sunderland beat Chelsea at the Stadium of Light was in October 2000, meaning they have failed to win in their last 11 here.
28'
INCHES AWAY! At the other end, Chelsea almost double their lead. Ivanovic whips the ball across the area and Costa is whiskers away from making the vital connection.
26'
GOOD SAVE! Defoe sits a neat cross up to the back post where Borini is waiting, but Courtois gets across well to make a smart stop.
25'
Allardyce and the home fans will be encouraged by the way that their side have responded to going behind. The Black Cats need to keep this up and try to find an equaliser as soon as they can.
23'
Worryingly, Sunderland are yet to win after conceding first in any match this season. They need to change the form book in their quest for Premier League survival.
21'
Borini is almost in behind as he receives a neatly threaded pass into the area. He is quickly smothered out, though, as Chelsea recover the situation.
19'
OFF THE POST! Defoe peels away from his marker to meet Cattermole's deep cross, but sees his header rebound off the woodwork with Courtois stranded. It would not have counted, though, as the offside flag had been raised.
18'
The hosts are looking to bounce back as they knock the ball around at the back and in midfield. They do not appear to be too affected by that goal, which will please Allardyce.
16'
That was Costa's 16th goal of the season and the Stadium of Light is stunned. Sunderland were very unlucky that the deflection fell straight to the feet of Costa, but they cannot afford to let their heads drop.
14'
Diego Costa has scored a goal for Chelsea!
CHELSEA TAKE THE LEAD!!! When you're down at the bottom, that is the sort of luck you get! Cahill stays forward and looks to thread the ball towards the penalty spot, but his attempted pass deflects off Yedlin into the path of Costa. The striker needs no second invitation, as he calmly slots past Mannone.
13'
Fabregas and Hazard execute a neat one-two to good effect with the former getting in behind the Sunderland defence, and Kone makes a vital intervention to deny Costa an almost certain goal.
10'
Chelsea are taking the opportunity to try and gain the upper hand on the contest, as they knock the ball around in defence and maintain possession.
8'
There's a lovely tempo to the match thus far. Sunderland are keen to push the pace, while Chelsea too are buoyed by their draw against Tottenham as they aim to finish the season strong. Both sides are playing very direct in possession, but quality has been lacking at the crucial moments.
6'
Diego Costa certainly appears up for the occasion. He doesn't know the meaning of a lost cause at the moment, chasing down every ball with great determination. Kone and Kaboul will have to remain on their toes in dealing with the Spaniard.
4'
It's shaping up to be a bit of a tense encounter. Sunderland know every moment could prove a massive one in their quest for survival, which has led to a few timid passes and stray crosses in the opening stages. They can't afford to let Chelsea settle in and get comfortable.
2'
The end result is disappointing for Sunderland as Khazri sends the free-kick straight into the wall before Hazard collects and starts a break the other way. The noise level inside the stadium is reaching a new high, and they're only getting louder with this positive start from their side.
1'
G. Cahill gets yellow.
Sunderland get the match underway, attacking left to right, wearing their classic red and white stripes with Chelsea in blue.
CAHILL ESCAPES WITH ONE! An incredibly loose pass from Cesc Fabregas puts Cahill under immense pressure as Defoe intercepts and runs at the centre-half, who subsequently drags him to ground. It's a big decision from the referee, but he sticks with a yellow card as Terry was around on the cover.
Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE text commentary of the Barclays Premier League. We're at the Stadium of Light today, as Sunderland take on Chelsea.
Sunderland will be desperate for three points this afternoon in their quest for Premier League survival. Meanwhile, Chelsea may be playing for pride, but will be keen to make a statement ahead of next season.
Sunderland gained a last-ditch point against Stoke last weekend - their sixth draw in eight games. Sam Allardyce names the same starting 11, including former Chelsea players Patrick van Aanholt and Fabio Borini.
Chelsea showed great character to come from 2-0 down to earn a point against Tottenham on Monday - ending Spurs' title hopes and handing the trophy to Leicester. Guus Hiddink makes just two changes as Thibaut Courtois returns in goal with Asmir Begovic making way, while Eden Hazard starts ahead of Pedro.
CHELSEA (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta; Mikel, Matic; Willian, Fabregas, Hazard; Costa.
CHELSEA SUBS: Begovic, Baba, Oscar, Pato, Traore, Kenedy, Loftus-Cheek.
The atmosphere is boisterous at the always enthusiastic Stadium of Light. The games keep getting bigger for the Black Cats, who are no strangers to this late-season drama. It promises to be another spirited contest in Wearside, one the hosts will be hoping to be on the positive end of.
HALF-TIME: SUNDERLAND 1-2 CHELSEA
That goal is a hammer blow for Sunderland and will have made Allardyce's team talk a lot more difficult at the break. The hosts need to respond once again, while Hiddink will encourage Chelsea to push for more goals. Although the Blues are playing for pride as the season draws to a close, they will want to make a statement before attempting to surge back up the table next season.
The players are making their way back out onto the pitch and the second half is about to get underway.
FULL-TIME: SUNDERLAND 3-2 CHELSEA
Sunderland are on the brink of Premier League survival. A victory over Everton in midweek would be enough to keep them up - relegating Newcastle and Norwich in the process. Chelsea's disappointing season continues as they saw leads of 1-0 and 2-1 overturned by the resilient Black Cats.
That's all from the Stadium of Light. Thank you for following the LIVE action of the Barclays Premier League - hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, have a very good evening!
