Penalty Miss Manolo Gabbiadini

Paul Cook and Wigan will be heartbroken. For all their positive play they didn't manage to notch a goal in the first half and have ultimately paid the price. It's time for them to show their character and why they're a team to be feared, especially in this competition!
62'
P. Højbjerg has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by D. Tadić.
Assist Dušan Tadić
GOOOAAALLL! The deadlock has been broken! Højbjerg provides the finish at the second time of asking! Walton couldn't keep it out and the Premier League side have taken the lead! Tadic with the assist from the corner.

Southampton look like a completely different team since Mark Hughes' half-time team talk, Walton has pulled off another great save to prevent Højbjerg's powerful headed effort from finding the net!
57'
Chance for Gabbiadini! Byrne's concentration slips as he plays a poor backpass to set up Southampton but Walton makes a great save! This game is livening up and both sides are playing well in this second half!
56'
It's absolutely clear Mark Hughes wasn't happy with his team during the break, they've come out with a new approach and are looking more tenacious.
55'
Another effort on goal for Wigan, this time for Massey. He's dragged his right-footed shot low and wide of the post - Will Grigg will be patiently waiting for one of these opportunities to fall his way!
53'
Jacobs picks up the ball on the edge of the box and uses the defenders in front of him to bend the ball around towards the top corner, he's just high and wide of the mark but it's the right idea and almost executed to perfection!

Dangerous ball from Boufal as he whips the ball into the corridoor of uncertainty between defence and keeper but Walton manages to collect safely. Southampton are looking revitalized!
48'
Very similar start to the first half so far, both teams briefly enjoying decent spells on the ball without any severe danger at either end, are we destined for deadlock?

34'
End-to-end stuff over the last few minutes here, both teams enjoying brief attacks but failing to trouble the opposition goalkeeper!
30'
Carrillo and Gabbiadini's partnership isn't showing any signs of promise after thirty minutes, if Southampton continue to struggle to threaten Wigan then Mark Hughes may well turn to the bench sooner rather than later!
28'
Another corner for Wigan! 8-0 in that department now...
25'
Wigan continue to look dangerous and ask questions of Southampton here as we approach the half-hour mark.

Chance for Roberts as the ball breaks kindly to him in the box but he's just made the wrong decision unfortunately for Wigan, trying to dink it over the keeper into the far corner when power would have been the better option!
18'
Lemina curls one wide , the more players like him and Tadic get involved and showcase their ability the better as far as Southampton are concerned. Wigan have been the better side but over the last 2 minutes or so Southampton have looked menacing in the final third!
17'
Wigan are testing the Premier League side here, consecutive corners have got Southampton on the ropes! The Lactics are also dominating the midfield whereas Lemina and Højbjerg are looking outnumbered and failing to dictate the play as Mark Hughes would expect them to.
16'
CHANCE! Dunkley almost taps in at the back post after Byrne put the ball in from the short corner.
14'
Good play from Power and Grigg to win a corner for their side, McCarthy punched it away confidently though so no danger for Southampton.
13'
Paul Cook will likely be the happier manager during the opening proceedings. Mark Hughes is probably expecting a bit more of his players, not only due to the difference between the squads on paper but also because his players should be trying to impress him to earn a place in his XI!
11'
Chance for Southampton from a free-kick whipped deep into the box, Walton struggled to get hold of the ball and presented an opportunity to Carrillo - he failed to get enough on the shot though and put it straight back into the keeper's grateful hands.
7'
Will Grigg is the competition's top scorer with 7 in the bank so far, he'll be looking to make the difference today against a side that are really struggling for goals despite a plethora of attacking options. Can the fan favourite step up to the plate once again?
5'
Corner for Wigan. Good work by Byrne on the right wing, operating in an attacking full-back role.
First attempt of the game from Massey, his right-footed stike from outside the box drifts well over though.
