We're off! Marseille get us underway.
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of today’s Europa League quarter-final second leg between Marseille and RB Leipzig at the Stade Velodrome.
A nervy and close-fought encounter in east Germany seven days ago means this tie remains firmly in the balance, with both teams still having a great chance of progressing. It’s Leipzig who are narrowly in front, however, as Timo Werner’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave the Bundesliga side a slight advantage heading into tonight’s clash.
Leipzig have impressed in the Europa League so far, knocking out both Napoli and Zenit on their way to the quarter-finals, but this evening’s game could prove to be a tough one for them. They may have only lost one of their eight clashes but were thumped 4-1 by Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend, and they’re about to take on a team that boast an impressive home record.
On only one occasion in the last two and a half years have Marseille lost a Europa League tie in front of their own fans, with six of the last seven ending in victories. The Velodrome has proved to be a tricky place to visit this season, with only two sides managing to come away with wins. Les Phoceens have kept four clean sheets in their last six games there, scoring 10 goals in the process.
Marseille have failed to score in their last two outings, though, and Werner’s strike last week means they must score tonight. They’ll be hoping to continue their impressive defensive record, too, as a crucial away goal for their opponents would leave the French side needing three to progress. Rudi Garcia’s men really will have to be at their best at both ends of the pitch.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
RB Leipzig substitutes: Bernardo, Willi Orban, Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg, Timo Werner, Dominik Kaiser, Yvon Mvogo.
RB Leipzig XI (4-3-3): Peter Gulacsi; Stefan Ilsanker, Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Lukas Klostermann; Kevin Kampl, Diego Demme, Naby Keita; Marcel Sabitzer, Jean-Kevin Augustin, Bruma.
Marseille substitues: Lucas Ocampos, Clinton N’Jie, Gregory Sertic, Adil Rami, Valere Germain, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Florian Escales.
Marseille XI (4-2-3-1): Yohann Pele; Hiroki Sakai, Boubacar Kamara, Luiz Gustavo, Jordan Amavi; Maxime Lopez, Morgan Sanson; Bouna Sarr, Florian Thauvin, Dimitri Payet; Kostas Mitroglou.
Rudi Garcia has decided to make two changes to the Marseille side that started the first leg, with Lopez and Thauvin coming into the starting line-up to replace Zambo Anguissa and Ocampos, respectively.
Meanwhile, Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has made three alterations to the team that featured seven days ago, with Konrad Laimer, Forsberg and Werner making way for Ilsanker, Kampl and Sabitzer.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: MARSEILLE 3-1 RB LEIPZIG (3-2 AGG)
Well, what an excellent first half that was! Marseille got off to the worst possible start when Leipzig opened the scoring with just two minutes on the clock, but they responded brilliantly and deservedly lead at the half-time break. Just one more goal from Leipzig would put them back in control, though, so it's still all to play for heading into what should be a fascinating second period.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: MARSEILLE 5-2 RB LEIPZIG (5-3 AGG)
The referee blows his whistle for the final time and the home fans go wild! It's been an excellent night for their side, who went behind early on but responded brilliantly with a fantastic performance from all involved. Leipzig would have felt confident about their chances of reaching the semi-finals after winning last week, but they've been sent packing in their first ever European campaign.
