R. Klavan enters the game and replaces Roberto Firmino.
Roberto Firmino has now made way, with Ragnar Klavan coming on.
90' +2
Florenzi tries a hopeful punt in as Liverpool’s defence retreat, but Karius comes out to claim it.
90'
Neat play by Roma on the edge of Liverpool’s area, as Dzeko and Schick tee up Nainggolan, whose low strike deflects wide.
88'
F. Fazio gets yellow.
Fazio has picked up a booking.
87'
CLOSE! Dzeko tries his luck from distance, and his strike floats just over the bar. Moments later, the former Manchester City man drills in a low cross, but Perotti can’t turn it home.
85'
Penalty goal scored by D. Perotti for Roma!
J. Milner gets yellow.
GOOAALL!! Could it all be coming undone!? You can’t imagine Liverpool could dtrhow this tie away but… suddenly, they are on the rocks. Perotti kept his calm when stepping up to the spot, hooking a finish high into the right corner.
Yellow card Jordan Brian Henderson
84'
PENALTY TO ROMA! Well, this is remarkable! Nainggolan has won it, with a shot into Milner’s hand, and the referee pointed to the spot.
83'
CHANCE! Straight from the restart, Firmino gets into the area, but fluffs his lines and the opportunity goes begging.
81'
E. Džeko has scored a goal for Roma! Assist by R. Nainggolan.
Nainggolan was the architect with a wonderful cross from the right, and although Liverpool remain firmly in control of the tie, that goal could offer Roma a slim glimmer of hope.
GOAL! Dzeko pulls one back for Roma! It may just prove to be a consolation for the visitors, but Dzeko has just shown his quality with a brilliant touch and finish from close range.
78'
As good as Liverpool have been, this has been embarrassing from Roma. Di Francesco looked lost as soon as the Reds took the lead, and the young manager has learnt a harsh lesson this evening.
Minute
Description
75'
D. Ings enters the game and replaces Mohamed Salah.
A standing ovation now for Mohamed Salah, as Liverpool’s magical forward makes his way from the field of play having torn his former club to shreds this evening, and all-but putting Liverpool into the final. Danny Ings is on in Salah's place.
74'
D. Lovren gets yellow.
CHANCE! That could have been a consolation for Roma, as Schick got the better of Robertson at the back post. The forward’s header, however, is directed too close to Karius, who gets down to make the stop.
Lovren goes into the book following a late challenge on Dzeko.
71'
A nervy moment for Lovren, whose clearance is charged down by Schick. For a moment, Karius looks startled, but is able to watch the ball trickle past the post.
68'
Roberto Firmino has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by J. Milner.
GOOOOAAAALLLL!!! FIRMINO HITS THE FIFTH! Roma fans are applauding now, as they simply appreciate the brilliance of their opponents. This goal, however, was merely poor marking from the Italians, as Firmino got onto the end of a looping Milner corner to head home with aplomb. Liverpool are, surely, into the final.
Milner has been magnificent all season for the Reds, and has marked another impressive display with an assist now.
67'
D. Perotti enters the game and replaces Juan Jesus.
M. Gonalons enters the game and replaces D. De Rossi.
Juan Jesus also goes off, and is replaced by Diego Perotti. That will mean a change in system, to a 4-3-3.
Roma are preparing a double change, now, not that it will do much good. Daniele De Rossi is making way, with Maxime Gonalons coming on.
63'
Almost a costly error by Alisson, who fumbles Salah’s corner. Wijnaldum tried to head home the rebound, but couldn’t quite make contact.
61'
Roberto Firmino has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by Mohamed Salah.
AMAZING FROM SALAH! It just gets better and better and better for Liverpool and that man, that magician, Mohamed Salah. He pins Jesus one-on-one, easily getting the better of the defender before drilling a low cross into the six-yard box, where Firmino is on hand to tuck home.
Liverpool are on their way to Kiev, and they have Mo Salah to thank. He has scored two and made two tonight, and is simply playing at a different level to almost every other player on this pitch - certainly any in a Roma shirt!
60'
SAVE! That’s a great stop by Alisson, who rushes off his line to deny Robertson from point-blank range. The goalkeeper has been excellent for Roma today, despite the scoreline.
58'
Di Francesco has lost any idea of how he wants his Roma side to play, here, when it surely has to be a matter of damage limitation for the Italians. As I type, Kolarov plays it into Schick, whose first-time effort floats wide.
56'
S. Mané has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by Mohamed Salah.
GOAL! That’s game over! If it wasn’t already, Roma’s Champions League campaign looks to be all-but finished. Salah has turned provider now, taking advantage of a ridiculously high Roma line. The Egyptian looked offside, but the flag stays down and he keeps his cool to tee up Mane, who duly slots home.
Salah has been simply sensational against his former club, and although he looked to have strayed offside, made no mistake with a superb run and then cut-back into Mane.
54'
LUCKY! Dreadful play from Manolas, who concedes it straight to Firmino. The Brazil forward immediately looks to play Mane through, but the winger had again drifted offside.
53'
Liverpool are so close to picking Roma off and making it three. Di Francesco’s side are far too open, and lack the pace at the back to cover the huge spaces left behind them.
48'
Salah causes havoc by brilliantly bringing down a long ball and managing to force the ball back into the middle. Milner picks up the scraps, and wins a free-kick for handball.
46'
P. Schick enters the game and replaces C. Ünder.
A first change of the game, and it comes from Roma. Patrik Schick is on for the visitors, replacing Cengiz Under.
45'
Mohamed Salah has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by Roberto Firmino.
SALAH MAKES IT TWO! This is supreme from Liverpool’s incredible number 11. That could well be the game, and tie, over, as Firmino - at the culmination of a quick counter - feeds Salah, who keeps his cool to dink a delicate, perfectly-weighted finish over Alisson and send the Reds’ faithful into raptures.
It's a second assist for Firmino, who has been superb tonight. He linked up with Salah on the half-way line, and then played a neat throughball into the Egyptian's path.
44'
Salah turns provider now with a neat flick into Firmino, whose strike deflects wide. From the resulting corner, Van Dijk gets a free header at the back post, but directs it straight at Alisson.
40'
Firmino launches another counter and almost gets Mane in, but Fazio covers. Seconds later, Wijnaldum takes it on from a tight angle, but Alisson makes the stop.
39'
T. Alexander-Arnold gets yellow.
A bit of a reprieve for Roma, as Alexander-Arnold lunges in on De Rossi. The visitors go short from the free-kick, though, and the Reds soon have it back…
37'
OFF THE BAR! Roma are all over the place now and there could well be a collapse on the cards soon for the Italians. Lovren wins a header from a corner, but can’t quite keep it down and the woodwork comes to Roma’s rescue.
35'
Mohamed Salah has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by Roberto Firmino.
Now it’s Firmino who tries his luck, curling a strike goalwards from range, but can’t get the better of his compatriot Alisson.
Firmino will be credited with the assist, but all the glory goes to Salah.
WHAT. A. GOAL! And who else could it be!? Mohamed Salah has put Liverpool ahead with an immense, sublime, outrageous goal at Anfield. Roma’s defence sit off the Egyptian, offering their former player just enough space to pick out the top-corner of the post and crossbar with an exquisite strike that nestles into the back of the net!
34'
OFFSIDE! NO GOAL FOR MANE! Robertson delivers a brilliant cross from the left that Mane gets on the end of and manages to turn home, but the former Southampton man had drifted offside. Roma need to get organised or it is only a matter of time until Liverpool take the lead.
32'
Roma’s defence are under some real pressure here, and Di Francesco needs to get his side organised to make it through this spell of pressure from the hosts.
31'
Liverpool are at it now! Brilliant combination play between Wijnaldum and Salah puts the Reds’ top-scorer through. The Egyptian looks to curl it towards the far corner, but Alisson is on hand to parry it away.
30'
CHANCE! Again, Mane sends it wide! Roma’s defence suddenly look all at sea, as Firmino makes a fool of Kolarov before squaring it back into the area. Mane is there waiting for it, but sends his first-time strike off target.
29'
MISS! That was the chance for Liverpool! Fazio gets caught out high upfield and, straight away, Mane is clear. The Senegal winger drives towards the area and looks set to dink it over Alisson, but can only send a powerful effort over the bar!
26'
Juan Jesus gets yellow.
That’s clumsy from former Inter defender Jesus, who dived in late on Mane, bringing the forward down around 30 yards out from goal. The Brazilian has a tightrope to walk now.
25'
Salah manages to shrug off Juan Jesus and find Alexander-Arnold, who delivers a cross. Manolas clears however, allowing Under to race away upfield, only for Henderson to make a superb covering challenge.
24'
Roma will be pleased with their display so far, and Liverpool haven’t truly settled yet. The visitors have looked confident in possession, though have lacked sharpness in the final third.
22'
Risky play from Lovren, who takes a swipe at Under in Liverpool’s area. Luckily for Liverpool, the Croatia defender failed to make contact.
21'
Oxlade-Chamberlain is still on the sidelines, and it looks as though he will have to be taken down the tunnel on a stretcher. That could well be the midfielder’s season over, and his World Cup chances could be gone too.
19'
OFF THE BAR! Kolarov latches onto a loose ball on the edge of the area and unleashes a wicked, dipping shot. Karius misjudges it completely, but fortunately for the German he manages to touch it onto the bar. Lucky!
18'
G. Wijnaldum enters the game and replaces A. Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Here is that change. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes way for Georginio Wijnaldum.
17'
Well, that is a blow for Liverpool and Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the former Arsenal man hardly able to hobble off before falling back to the floor. Liverpool are preparing a change, but are temporally down to 10 men.
15'
This doesn’t look great for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who appears to have jarred his knee while diving in on Kolarov. The England man is currently receiving treatment, but looks in some pain.
12'
Roma are playing with a back five at the moment, and although they remain compact at the back, it is restricting their play on the counter - with Under and Dzeko having to wait a while for support to arrive.
11'
Both Fazio and Juan Jesus make good interceptions high upfield, but neither centre-back manages to keep their composure on the ball and find a team-mate with their pass, enabling Salah to lead a counter. The visitors manage to recover, however, with a late challenge on Nainggolan from Van Dijk receiving some pressure.
8'
Liverpool carry on pressing, with Roma on the back foot at the moment. Oxlade-Chamberlain finds space 25 yards out and lets rip with a low strike, but Alisson is well-placed to make a save.
7'
This would be comical, if it wasn’t so ridiculous! The linesman is still without a flag, and one of the UEFA assistants is now having to make a new one up on the sidelines.
4'
An error from Florenzi allows Firmino to get Liverpool on the front foot, but the Roma winger recovers, making a fine challenge to block Milner’s cross and win a goal kick.
3'
A first chance for Salah to run at his former team, as the Egyptian drifts wide before cutting onto his preferred left foot, but his resulting effort lacks the power to beat Brazil number one Alisson.
2'
The rain is pouring down on Merseyside, and any mistake by either side tonight could well be pounced upon, with both teams employing a high-press. Roma are the first to create an opening - Dzeko teeing up Strootman - but Karius is equal to the Dutchman’s strike.
1'
KICK OFF! We are up and running in this clash, and it promises to be a cracker!
Both of these teams overthrew favourites to lift this trophy in remarkable fashion in the quarter-finals. While Liverpool overcame Pep Guardiola's Premier League juggernauts Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate, Roma forged one of the most extraordinary comebacks in Champions League history, coming from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with the mighty Barcelona and progress to the last four on away goals.
Now, a place in the final - against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich - awaits for whichever side proves their worth over the two legs.
Let's check on the teams...
Liverpool substitutes: Clone, Wijnaldum, Klavan, Moreno, Mignolet, Ings, Solanke.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Free-scoring Mohamed Salah has stolen the show in the Premier League this season, and pipped Kevin De Bruyne to the PFA Player of the Year Award on Sunday. The Egyptian excelled at Roma for two seasons prior to his move to Anfield last year, and faces his former club for the first time this evening.
Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of the Champions League semi-final first leg between Liverpool and Roma. Stick right here for all the action as it happens from Anfield!
Roma (3-4-2-1): Alisson; Fazio, Manolas, Juan Jesus; Florenzi, De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov; Under, Nainggolan; Dzeko.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are on a seven-game unbeaten run, although they head into this clash on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw with the Premier League’s bottom club West Brom. The Liverpool boss has made five changes in total from that encounter at the Hawthorns - Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Andrew Robertson all coming into the side.
Roma substitutes: Pellegrini, Perotti, Schick, Gonalons, Bruno Peres, Skorupski, El Shaarawy.
Roma, meanwhile, have won their two Serie A fixtures heading into this one, although Eusebio Di Francesco made wholesale changes for their 3-0 victory over SPAL. Only Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman, Kostas Manolas, Federico Fazio and highly-rated goalkeeper Alisson retain their places.
This is the sixth competitive meeting between Liverpool and Roma, and the first since 2002 and the atmosphere - as always on a big European night - is crackling with anticipation at Anfield. Manchester City hardly stood a chance in the last Champions League fixture here, and Roma will have to be at their very best to fare any better.
Di Francesco has lined up a back three - top-scorer Edin Dzeko spearheading an attack which also includes the dynamic Nainggolan and tricky Cengiz Under, who will provide the spark and creativity in the final third. Liverpool, meanwhile, are in their usual 4-3-3 - Salah, Firmino and Sadio Mane primed to cause havoc for Roma’s defence if the visitors switch off at any point.
HALF-TIME! Liverpool 2 Roma 0!
Simply stunning from Salah, who has put Liverpool firmly in control in this tie. His sublime finish on 35 minutes put the Reds ahead after a spell of sustained pressure, and then, on the stroke of half-time, the winger did the damage again with a beautiful chip, devastating his former side.
Roma can get themselves back in this one, of course, having come from 4-1 down in the second leg against Barcelona. However, Di Francesco’s side myst organise themselves at the back, or they could well be worse than four down by the final whistle.
FULL TIME! Liverpool may well have one foot in the Champions League final, thanks to a Mohamed Salah-inspired 5-2 victory over Roma at Anfield, but two late goals from the Serie A side could have thrown this tie wide open.
Well, that’s all for now. Until next time, goodbye!
Firmino’s header sent the Reds into raptures with 20 minutes remaining, but the hosts switched off after Salah made way, and Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti may just have given Roma, who have not conceded at home in the Champions League all season, a glimmer of hope. The Italians beat Barcelona 3-0 last time out, and would require lightning to strike twice to progress into the final.
Salah was outstanding throughout, scoring two sensational goals to put Liverpool in control before then teeing up Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
The Stadio Olympico awaits for Liverpool in the second leg, but it looked as though Roma would stand little chance of making a comeback when they found themselves 5-0 down by the 70th minute.
