Southampton are winless in their opening two matches of the season. The Saints were held to a goalless draw against Burnley in their opener before being defeated by Everton on the road last time out. Danny Ings got off the mark in the loss to the Toffees at Goodison Park, and he will be hopeful of finding another goal to notch his side's first victory of the campaign.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Southampton and Leicester at St Mary's Stadium.
Leicester were beaten by Manchester United on the opening day of the season, although Claude Puel's men put forward a decent performance at Old Trafford. An own goal from Matt Doherty and a first Foxes goal for James Maddison secured their first win of the campaign, defeating Wolves at the King Power Stadium last week. Jamie Vardy's dismissal put Leicester under pressure in the second half, but they were still able to clinch the points to get off the mark.
Let's take a look at the two teams this afternoon.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Cedric Soares, Jannik Vestergaard, Wesley Hoedt, Ryan Bertrand; Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Mario Lemina, Mohamed Elyounoussi; Danny Ings, Shane Long.
Southampton subs: Jack Stephens, Steven Davis, Charlie Austin, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Stuart Armstrong, Angus Gunn.
LEICESTER (4-2-3-1): Kasper Schmeichel; Daniel Amartey, Wes Morgan, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Nampalys Mendy, Wilfred Ndidi; Ricardo Pereira, James Maddison, Demarai Gray; Kelechi Iheanacho.
Leicester subs: Jonny Evans, Marc Albrighton, Danny Ward, Shinji Okazaki, Adrien Silva, Christian Fuchs, Rachid Ghezzal.
Southampton have made four changes to their side from their defeat to Everton. Vestergaard, Elyounoussi, Hojbjerg and Long come into the fold for the Saints, with Stephens, Austin, Ward-Prowse and Romeu dropping to the bench.
Puel has made three changes to the team that beat Wolves last week. Morgan comes back into the side in the back four to replace Evans, while Amartey is given the nod over Marc Albrighton at full-back. Iheanacho replaces Vardy, who serves the first game of his suspension.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
It's goalless at the break between Southampton and Leicester at St Mary's Stadium. The Saints came closest to notching a breakthrough just before half-time when Danny Ings was denied by a good save from Kasper Schmeichel. Both teams struggled for quality in the final third for the majority of the opening period, especially from set-pieces. Southampton have been the better of the two sides, but Mark Hughes will want to see more from his team.
Claude Puel will not be too disappointed by the scoreline, although the performances of his players in the final third will not have impressed the Frenchman. James Maddison, Demarai Gray and Ricardo Pereira have not clicked, leaving Kelechi Iheanacho a frustrated figure.
Leicester secure their second win on the bounce in the Premier League thanks to Harry Maguire's late winner. Southampton are winless to start the term, although they did take the lead through a stunning strike from Ryan Bertrand. Their lead lasted just three minutes as Demarai Gray equalised for the visitors. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's dismissal for simulation turned the game in favour of Leicester. They had to wait until stoppage time to snatch the three points, but Maguire's strike allowed them to clinch the win on the road.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
