Hat-trick hero Sterling, who is perhaps a contender to finish the season as the Premier League's top scorer, is shown a yellow card for his foul on West Ham substitute Snodgrass.
90' +1
R. Sterling has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by R. Mahrez.
Mahrez has played a big part in this big win for City. He claims his second assist with this pass from deep, which Sterling took brilliantly.
GOOOOAAALLL!!! WEST HAM 0-5 MAN CITY! Sterling has an opening-day hat-trick as he shows great composure to slot the ball past Fabianski. He takes Mahrez's deep pass in his stride, taking a couple of touches to set himself before picking his spot. Fabianski could have done better, though - his positioning was poor.
90'
I think this is what you describe as 'going through the motions' from City's perspective. There is no need to press for a fifth goal as we enter five minutes of added time.
89'
VAR will dominate the post-match talk, but there is no doubt Man City are deserving winners today - the question is how many goals they deserve to win by. Another offside call goes against the hosts, who have now accepted their fate.
87'
K. Walker gets yellow.
Walker is booked for a poor challenge on Fornals.
86'
Penalty goal scored by S. Agüero for Manchester City!
GOOOOAAALLL!!! WEST HAM 0-4 MAN CITY! No messing around from Aguero this time as he sends Fabianski the wrong way from the retaken penalty. VAR has arrived in the Premier League, folks!
82'
A three-goal defeat would be harsh on West Ham but, Ederson's quickfire saves aside, they have not done enough to truly trouble the champions. Aguero has space to run into but he waits for support from Foden, who is unable to return the pass.
81'
Rodri steers the ball behind for a corner following a rare promising attack for the hosts. The corner is pretty poor, gathered by Ederson inside his six-yard box.
80'
P. Foden enters the game and replaces David Silva.
Foden is given another 10 minutes as he comes on for David Silva. Bernardo Silva will therefore remain on the bench as the visitors have made all three of their changes.

79'
İ. Gündoğan enters the game and replaces K. De Bruyne.
With the points now in the bag, Guardiola takes off key man De Bruyne and brings on Gundogan in his place.
77'
That was another tight call for Sterling's goal - a lot tighter than it looked in real time - but it was allowed to stand. Guardiola will be a lot more comfortable now, having seen Ederson produce a good double save shortly before the third goal arrived.
75'
R. Sterling has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by R. Mahrez.
GOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!! WEST HAM 0-3 MAN CITY! A little over a minute after that double save from Ederson, City score a third goal to kill off the contest - and this one is allowed to stand after a VAR check! Sterling makes a good run through the middle, controls Mahrez's pass and lifts it over Fabianski - brilliant finish!
Mahrez spotted Sterling's run and picked out his team-mate, who just about remained onside.
73'
Lanzini does not have the energy to take on his man down the left. West Ham are taking far too long when they do manage to get the ball forward, giving their opponents a chance to get bodies back behind the ball. Guardiola will be happy with another 20 minutes of this.
71'
Zinchenko gets his head to a left-sided cross. West Ham are not really putting their opponents under enough pressure at the moment - they need to start gambling if they are to get anything out of this game.
69'
S. Agüero enters the game and replaces Gabriel Jesus.
The match has become incredibly stop-start. City make their first change, with Aguero on for Jesus.
68'
De Bruyne overhits what should have been a simple pass towards Sterling - simple by his standards, at least - and another promising move breaks down. Aguero is warming up and will be introduced shortly.
66'
J. Hernández enters the game and replaces Felipe Anderson.
Felipe Anderson is unable to shake off the injury and is replaced by Hernandez.
64'
A two-goal lead should make things comfortable for City, but that is not quite the case. Again, West Ham would have been three down if not for VAR, so they have been given a reprieve of sorts. A goal now would set us up nicely.
62'
Felipe Anderson gets yellow.
The game has a bit of an edge to it now following that VAR decision. Felipe Anderson trips Laporte and joins Balbuena in being shown a yellow card.
61'
F. Balbuena gets yellow.
Balbuena clearly catches Jesus and is shown the first yellow card of the match.
60'
NEARLY! Snodgrass whips a left-sided free-kick into the box and Ederson is nowhere near it. Diop gets to the ball first but is unable to direct his header on target. That is as good as things have got for the hosts.
59'
City full-back Zinchenko decides to have a go from outside the box, sending his effort high over the crossbar.
58'
Diop recovers well to prevent Jesus from getting a shot away. The home fans have been buoyed by that huge VAR call, which the officials appear to have got correct. Talk about fine margins!
56'
R. Snodgrass enters the game and replaces J. Wilshere.
Wilshere does not seem all that happy to be coming off. Snodgrass has been brought on in his place.
55'
VAR is checking whether Sterling was offside when squaring the ball to Jesus. It would be a shame to see a goal of that quality ruled out, but if he was offside he was offside.
51'
R. Sterling has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by K. De Bruyne.
De Bruyne had a stop-start season last time out, but he looked good against Liverpool last weekend and he is off the mark with his first assist here. He carried the ball forward and laid it on a plate for Sterling.
GOOOOAAALLL!!! WEST HAM 0-2 MAN CITY! Sterling, on target in the Community Shield last weekend, makes it two in two. De Bruyne carries the ball past a couple of players and slides it into the path of Sterling, who keeps his composure by slotting his shot through the legs of Fabianski.
50'
STERLING HEADS ON TARGET! It is all very patient from Man City at the moment. They work the ball down the left and then into the middle, with Sterling climbing highest - not something you see all that often - to guide Zinchenko's cross on target. Fabianski makes a simple stop.
48'
Zinchenko plays in a dangerous cross from the left but Diop cuts it out in front of goal. City have started the second half pretty well.
47'
Fornals, who impressed for Spain at Under-21 level during the close season, has slotted into a left-sided position. West Ham definitely needed something different and he may well be the man to provide it.
46'
Pablo Fornals enters the game and replaces M. Antonio.
Pellegrini has made a change at the break by bringing on debutant Fornals for Antonio.
RESTART! Reigning Premier League champions Man City get us back up and running at the London Stadium!
45' +2
HALF-TIME: WEST HAM 0-1 MAN CITY
45' +1
Diop gets his clearance all wrong and it lands to Jesus, who is unable to adjust his feet in time to lift the ball over Fabianski.
45'
One minute has been added on at the end of the first half. West Ham are the side in possession but they are lacking an attacking threat.
44'
Mike Dean gives Rodri a warning as he gives away another free-kick, this time for a challenge on Wilshere in midfield. The home fans are not happy with the leniency.
43'
West Ham have managed just the one shot on target in the first half, and that was a pretty tame effort from record-signing Haller. More is needed from Pellegrini's men in the final third if they are to find a leveller.
42'
Rodri pulls back on Rice to stop West Ham from countering. The game is going through a quiet period as we approach half-time, with neither team really managing to create anything.
40'
Walker and Mahrez are not having quite so much joy out wide now compared to 10 minutes ago. City are bossing possession, which has not always been the case today, with the onus on their opponents to win it back.
38'
FABIANSKI DENIES DE BRUYNE! Guardiola's side are back in control of the game. They are far from comfortable, though, and you would not bet against West Ham scoring today. De Bruyne takes matters into his own hands with a powerful shot from 15 yards following a quick one-two, but Fabianski is equal to it.
36'
ATTEMPT ON TARGET! Haller quickly decides that he is unable to control a cross into the box and he instead attempts to catch out Ederson. His flicked effort is on target but it is a comfortable stop for Man City's Brazilian keeper.
28'
Yet again City get in behind down the right. Walker feeds the ball to Mahrez and the Algeria attacker's cross is gathered by Fabianski.
27'
Walker is again involved as he picks out goalscorer Jesus, but Balbuena is there to make a challenge. Pellegrini needs to shore up his left-hand side.
25'
Gabriel Jesus has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by K. Walker.
Walker, whose position is under threat from big-money signing Cancelo, showed incredible pace to get in behind. After latching on to Mahrez's throughball he played it into the six-yard box for Jesus to convert.
GOOOOOOAAALLL!!! WEST HAM 0-1 MAN CITY! The champions may have been below par in the opening quarter of the match, but they are up and running for the season with their first goal. Walker races in behind Cresswell down the right and cuts the ball back into a dangerous zone. Diop appears to get a small touch but the final touch is provided by Jesus at the near post.
24'
Fabianski shows nerves of steel to knock the ball past Jesus when chased down by the Brazil striker. Up the other end, Zinchenko stands firm to cut out the danger.
23'
SIDE-NETTING ONLY! Mahrez is played in by De Bruyne but the angle is massively against him. He brings the ball inside Cresswell and shoots into the side-netting - City's best moment so far.
22'
Man City have had 55 per cent of the ball in the opening 20 minutes and have managed just one attempt on target. It has been a slow start from Guardiola's men, but West Ham have not really been able to make the most of it.
20'
West Ham turn over possession and hit their opponents on the break, but Haller opts against running at his man and tries to tee up Antonio. Laporte is well positioned to thwart what was a promising move.
18'
Fredericks gets none of the ball and plenty of Sterling to concede a free-kick wide on the left. City try to play it short but it rolls straight through for Fabianski to collect. Guardiola does not look too pleased at the moment.
16'
SHOT! Antonio whips the ball in from the right but it is far too deep and none of his team-mates are anywhere near it. Up the other end, Silva is given time to get a shot away and drags his 20-yard effort wide of the post.
14'
Antonio closes down Walker high up the pitch. The visitors are, as ever, trying to work the ball up the field from deep, but they are not having much luck thus far.
12'
The visitors are starting to grow into the match but they are nowhere near their free-flowing best - understandable, given this is their first league game of the season. A pass towards Mahrez is overhit and rolls straight out of play.
10'
FIRST SAVE! Mahrez comes inside from the right and curls a shot towards the bottom corner, but Fabianski gets down to make the save - the first of the match.
9'
Rodri was guilty of giving away possession in the build-up to that penalty shout. Walker has also been sloppy on the ball in what has been a slow start from the reigning champions. Can West Ham punish them?
8'
PENALTY APPEAL! Rodri panics when trying to get the ball off Lanzini. The Man City midfielder did make contact with his opponent inside the box, but Lanzini was already off balance and falling to the ground. A quick VAR check backs up referee Mike Dean's view that no penalty should be awarded.
7'
Walker carries the ball into central midfield and it is worked across to the left. It eventually drops to Sterling in the box but Balbuena gets back to end the attacking move.
5'
Man City are struggling to keep hold of the ball in the early stages. West Ham, by comparison, have settled fairly well.
1'
KICK-OFF! West Ham, aiming to pull off a big upset on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, get us under way!
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League meeting between West Ham and Manchester City at the London Stadium.
City finished top of the table last season for the second year running and they head into this new campaign as the favourites to make it three in a row. Pep Guardiola has arguably strengthened his squad during the close season by bringing in highly-rated holding midfielder Rodri, while back-up right-back Danilo has been replaced by Joao Cancelo and Angelino provides cover on the opposite flank. There is a lack of depth at centre-back, however, as inspirational skipper Vincent Kompany has moved on.
West Ham have also splashed the cash since finishing 10th last season, with French striker Sebastian Haller among those to join in what was a club-record transfer. A lot is expected of Manuel Pellegrini's men this term, and there is hope that they can hit the ground running with victory against their manager's former side today. A lot of that will depend on how quickly their new arrivals settle.
WEST HAM (4-2-3-1): Lukasz Fabianski; Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Aaron Cresswell (c); Jack Wilshere, Declan Rice; Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson; Sebastien Haller.
West Ham subs: Pablo Zabaleta, Angelo Ogbonna, Robert Snodgrass, Javier Hernandez, Pablo Fornals, Carlos Sanchez, Roberto Jimenez.
MAN CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, David Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling.
Man City subs: Nicolas Otamendi, Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Claudio Bravo.
The two teams are now out on the field at the London Stadium and we are moments away from kick-off.
Guardiola surprisingly named Aguero and Bernardo Silva among his subs today, but we will almost certainly see both of those players at some point if it remains this way. Jesus has justified his selection by scoring, though Sterling has not been involved as much as he would have liked and Mahrez has also been on the periphery. That said, the onus is very much on West Ham to find a goal, so we may well see new signing Fornals early in the second half.
Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye!
Man City return to action in a week's time with a home match against last season's Champions League finalists Tottenham. As for West Ham, they will be hoping for a better outcome when they travel to Brighton and Hove Albion next Saturday.
