We're underway at Villa Park.
Good afternoon and welcome to live commentary of the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Bournemouth at Villa Park.
Premier League football returns to Villa Park for the first time in three years. Dean Smith's men were faced with a tough task against Tottenham in their opener on the road. John McGinn did put them ahead, but Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from Harry Kane condemned the Villans to defeat. They will be looking to bounce back to kick off their campaign on home soil with a win over the Cherries.
ASTON VILLA (4-3-3): Tom Heaton; Ahmed El Mohamady, Bjorn Engels, Tyrone Mings, Neil Taylor; John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Jack Grealish; Anwar El Ghazi, Wesley, Trezeguet.
ASTON VILLA SUBS: Henri Lansbury, Jed Steer, Conor Hourihane, Ezri Konsa, Matt Target, Jota, Keinan Davis.
BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-1-1): Aaron Ramsdale; Adam Smith, Steve Cook, Nathan Ake, Charlie Daniels; Harry Wilson, Jefferson Lerma, Philip Billing, Ryan Fraser; Josh King; Callum Wilson.
BOURNEMOUTH SUBS: Artur Boruc, Andrew Surman, Dominic Solanke, Jordon Ibe, Jack Stacey, Diego Rico, Chris Mepham.
Bournemouth face a newly-promoted side for the second week in a row. Last time out they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United at Vitality Stadium. Chris Mepham had put the Cherries in front, but Billy Sharp denied them a perfect start to the new term when he scored two minutes from time. Eddie Howe's men will be tested again this afternoon against a team that will be desperate to emulate their recent success in the top flight.
It has been an open game to say the least, and that could play into Villa's hands in the second half. Phillip Billing has been very close to earning his second booking of the match on a couple of occasions. Dean Smith and his team will be quick to remind Martin Atkinson of that fact at the interval. Expect more goals to be score in this one as both sides have been dangerous in the final third.
Villa are next in action against Everton at home next Friday, while Bournemouth face Manchester City at home next Sunday.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
