This Group D match is underway!
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of this UEFA Champions League Group D match between Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow at BayArena.
With Juventus and Atletico Madrid also in Group D in this season's Champions League, no one's expecting Bayer Leverkusen or Lokomotiv Moscow to pull up any trees. However, Germany's fourth and Russia's second best sides last year should have enough about them to make this group competitive.
BAYER LEVERKUSEN (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hradecky; Lars Bender (c), Jonathan Tah, Sven Bender, Wendell; Charles Aranguiz, Julian Baumgartlinger; Karim Bellarabi, Kai Havertz, Leon Bailey; Kevin Volland.
SUBS: Nadiem Amiri, Lucas Alario, Mitchell Weiser, Ramazan Ozcan, Paulinho, Moussa Diaby, Aleksandar Dragovic.
This is the first ever competitive meeting of these two sides. Leverkusen make their first Champions League appearance since 2016-17, while Lokomotiv are enjoying consecutive campaigns in the competition for the first time since a three-season run in the early 2000s.
SUBS: Eder, Anton Kochenkov, Dmitry Zhivoglyadov, Luka Djordjevic, Roman Tugarev, Brian Idowu, Aleksandr Kolomeytsev.
The two sides are out on the pitch at a strangely half-full BayArena. Leverkusen are wearing their usual all-red home kit, while Lokomotiv are in their white away kit with a green trim.
Lokomotiv end the first matchday top of Group D with three points after Atletico Madrid drew 2-2 with Juventus at the Wanda Metropolitano. Leverkusen are bottom. Sure, it's only one game, but Leverkusen look like they're already facing an uphill struggle to qualify for the next round.
It's a memorable win for Lokomotiv in Leverkusen, then, and one which gives them a chance of getting out of Group D. Only time will tell if they can pull off the trick against Atletico and Juve - there's five more games to come after all - but they can dream. That's all for now. Goodbye!
