Brighton get the action underway at Stamford Bridge.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea responded to back-to-back defeats with an emphatic 7-1 win over Grimsby in the EFL Cup during the week to seal their place in the fourth round of the competition. The Blues suffered losses to Valencia in the Champions League then Liverpool in the Premier League so a victory was needed to stem the tide. Frank Lampard's men have been solid, but are in need of a consistent run in the league to move up the table.
Brighton had chances to beat Newcastle in their last outing in the Premier League at St James' Park. However, they were unable to capitalise on their opportunities. It has been the story of their season to date under Graham Potter. The Seagulls crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Aston Villa, suffering a 3-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium. Brighton are winless in five matches in the league, although a trip to Stamford Bridge is not as daunting as it has been in the past.
CHELSEA SUBS: Willy Caballero, Mateo Kovacic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Michy Batshuayi, Reece James, Marc Guehi.
BRIGHTON (3-4-3): Mat Ryan; Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk, Dan Burn; Martin Montoya, Yves Bissouma, Dale Stephens, Steven Alzate; Pascal Gross, Aaron Mooy, Neal Maupay.
The Blues have been suspect at the back this season due to the youthful nature of their defensive pairings, but Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen have been fine thus far. Christensen and Alonso have been booked, which could be worth monitoring in the second half. It's a big 45 minutes for Lampard and his team, who will not want to drop further points at the Bridge.
CHELSEA (4-2-3-1): Kepa Arrizabalga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso; Jorginho, Ross Barkley; Wilian, Pedro, Mason Mount; Tammy Abraham.
Chelsea are next in action during the week in their Champions League clash against Lille on the road, while Brighton play Tottenham next Saturday at the Amex Stadium.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
