We're underway in the Madrid derby.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano.
Real Madrid begin the day six points adrift of Atletico at the top of the table. Zinedine Zidane's men already secured a vital win in the Champions League this week to secure a place in the knockout stage by defeating Borussia Monchengladbach. Los Blancos can now turn their attention to the deficit in LaLiga. They've not been at their best this term, but a win tonight could swing momentum in their favour.
Atletico have enjoyed an outstanding start to the season, but can make their start seem even stronger with a win over Real Madrid tonight. Diego Simeone's men are unbeaten this term and have reeled off seven wins on the bounce in the league. They were solid during the week to ease past Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. Los Rojiblancos can make a statement for their title hopes with a victory over their bitter rivals.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Ferland Mendy; Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; Lucas Vazquez, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez, Marco Asensio, Marcelo, Andriy Lunin, Federico Valverde, Alvaro Odriozola, Isco, Rodrygo Siva, Diego Altube.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Felipe, Mario Hermoso; Marcos Llorente, Hector Herrera, Koke, Yannick Carrasco; Luis Suarez, Joao Felix.
ATLETICO MADRID SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Lucas Torreira, Saul Niguez, Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar, Renan Lodi, Ivan Saponjic, Vitolo, Sime Vrsaljko, Miguel San Roman.
Zinedine Zidane will be pleased with his side's performance, although he will be aware that their lead is a slender one. They were excellent in the early stages of the contest, but allowed their standards to slip slightly. Until a second goal is scored by Los Blancos, Atletico will be a potent threat in the second period.
Real Madrid are next in action in LaLiga on Tuesday against Athletic Bilbao at home. Atletico are away in the Copa del Rey against Cardassar on Wednesday.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
