Hello and welcome to live match coverage of the World Cup Qualifier in Group G between Turkey and Netherlands at Ataturk Olimpiyat.
NETHERLANDS (4-3-3): Jasper Cillessen; Kenny Tete; Matthijs de Ligt, Daley Blind, Owen Wijndal; Marteen de Roon, Frenkie de Jong, Georgino Wijnaldum; Steven Berghuis, Donyell Malen, Memphis Depay.
TURKEY SUBS: Altay Bayindir, Fehmi Mert Gunok, Mert Muldur, Kaan Ayhan, Caner Erkin, Taylan Antalyali, Dorukhan Tokoz, Orkun Kokcu, Enes Unal, Emre Kilinc, Deniz Turuc, Cenk Tosun.
NETHERLANDS SUBS: Tim Krul, Maarten Stekelenburg, Denzel Dumfries, Joel Veltman, Patrick van Aanholt, Ryan Gravenberch, Davy Klaassen, Donny van de Beek, Ryan Babel, Steven Bergwijn, Calvin Stengs, Luuk de Jong.
In their last twelve outings, Gunes’ side have only lost on two occasions, and both of those defeats came against Hungary. During that time, the hosts have kept six clean sheets, and conceded just five home goals. De Boer’s team have also suffered two defeats in their previous 12 matches. The Oranje have not been free-scoring on the road of late, scoring just five goals on their travels.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Ataturk Olimpiyat.
Cillessen has picked up an injury in the warm up. Krul comes in to start.
Because no matches have been scheduled, neither side have played an international game since November 18th, 2020. In their final Nations League game, the hosts lost 2-0 away against Hungary. Netherlands, on the other hand, beat Poland 2-1 at Silesian Stadium.
Gunes will be delighted by his team’s performances so far, and will be looking for more of the same after the restart. Turkey have defended resolutely, limiting Netherlands to very few clear-cut chances. In attack, they have been ruthless, and now the visitors have a mountain to climb. De Boer, on the other hand, will expect more from his side in the second half. The Oranje have seen plenty of the ball but have lacked a cutting edge. They will need to get runners in behind the hosts’ backline if they are to cause problems after the break.
Turkey will be full of confidence ahead of their next qualifier. They travel to face Norway next time out. Netherlands, meanwhile, will seek to get their first points when they host Latvia.
That brings an end to our coverage of the World Cup Qualifier between Turkey and Netherlands at Ataturk Olimpiyat. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
