We're underway at Stamford Bridge.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Chelsea and Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea bounced back from their disappointing defeat at the hands of Bournemouth with a fine performance to beat Tottenham on the road last time out. Frank Lampard's men secured the 2-0 win courtesy of a brace from William, allowing the Chelsea boss to get one over his former manager. The Blues strengthened their position in the top four as a result of their triumph, but they need to continue to reel off victories to remain in the Champions League places.
Southampton ended a run of back-to-back defeats to move out of the relegation zone last time out, beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park. Danny Ings continued his excellent form with a brace, while Jack Stephens notched the other. After enduring a difficult start to the campaign, the Saints are beginning to pick up points with regularity and will be up for the challenge of facing the Blues this afternoon.
CHELSEA (3-4-3): Kepa Arrizabalga; Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori; Cesar Azpilicueta, N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Emerson; Willian, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham.
CHELSEA SUBS: Andreas Christensen, Ross Barkley, Pedro, Willy Caballero, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Michy Batshuayi.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Cedric Soares, Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens, Ryan Bertrand; Stuart Armstrong, James Ward-Prowse, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Nathan Redmond; Che Adams, Michael Obafemi.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Maya Yoshida, Jan Vestergaard, Danny Ings, Oriol Romeu, Sofiane Boufal, Angus Gunn, Kevin Danso.
Southampton have played the perfect first half for Ralph Hasenhuttl. They've been committed at the back, denying space to Tammy Abraham. The Saints have frustrated the home side at every opportunity. When an opening at goal presented itself, Obafemi was clinical. dispatching his effort into the net. Another 45 minutes like that would secure a huge result for the visitors, moving them further away from danger at the bottom of the Premier League.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Chelsea are next in action in the Premier League on Sunday against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, while Southampton host Crystal Palace on Saturday.
